Art Etchells-=-
what a guy.
Today's his birthday.
If you don't know the name he's the aggregating guy behind foobooz...and a good friend of mine for years now.
If you see him around and Weyerbacher zotten is on the beer list- buy him one- its one of his favorites.
He's also been known to keep the Troegs "stock" up or-
Or you can buy him a Sly Fox Pikeland Pils.
But he might just shotgun it>>>>>>>>>>>>
Or maybe that's only at the Pub and Kitchen. Oh-wait he's always at the Pub and Kitchen.
Happy Birthday Art. "We" at Ill have another stout "world headquarters" love ya.

Smokin Betty's: Of beer AND beer cocktails

I'm at heart- truly-madly-deeply- a beer gal. I've been known to not turn down whiskey. I may want a glass of Wassail around Christmas time, but 9 out of 10 times, I want a pint. This is especially true in a spot like the new Smokin Betty's-"her" draft line up pleases connoisseurs and novices alike, but as I just learned last Thursday, she's also concocting some pretty snazzy -yet affordable- cocktails, including BEER cocktails.
I know some purists aren't on board. But relax -they're fun, and they get some people to cross over to our side ;)
Meet "Curious Georgia"- only $3 during Happy hour. $4 otherwise.
Allagash White, Peach Schnapps, garnished with a fresh peach that's been soaking in a ginger infused simple syrup. Simply delicious.
Then there's the alter-ego of the dirty martini....WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?
It's so good, I wish my suzaru wasn't outside because I would have had 4 more.
Once again, simple-
Absolut citron with white grape juice. The cherry topper is the garnish which is white grapes stuffed with maraschino cherries to masquerade as the Mediterranean salty treat.
Word on the smoke street is the bbq is reasonably priced and darn tasty.
So go check 'er out at 11th and Sansom.
Then head a block over to Fergies and have a PINT.

Bells Bells Bells: from Crabs to 'Cue.

There's a lot of love between Bell's Derek Zomonksi and New Holland's Joel Armato.
Maybe it's a Michigan thing. Bells is the largest brewery in the Wolverine state, New Holland is the second.
Regardless-=They're definitely having a bromance.
Last time I was around the two, Joel said to Derek: "There's nothing I don't love about you man."
So I thought they should share a post. Both have a few events lined up this week-= here goes
Tonight- let's say around 7
Derek will be at the p.o.p.e.
eating crabs and drinking Bells. Doesn't seem like a bad way to spend a Thursday night...
Then tomorrow
he'll move north to Center City and eat BBQ at Jose Pistolas.
There will be "A bunch of Bell's on tap, a firkin of 2 hearted ale, and we're cooking bbq with all of it. That's right, Chicken, Ribs, Pork, and craziness. Bring your drinkin caps and an empty stomach. starts in the afternoon and goes forever," says bar owner Casey Parker.
Then Saturday- the two are doing something at Teresa's Next Door.
I need to find out more details on that....

EXIT 11 release tonight!!! Go get your amarillo on.

Tonight, July 15th, the day my #1 guy, Michael Woods was born....
is the release of EXIT 11 Hoppy American Wheat.
It's soooooooooooooooooooo good.
Wheat beers aren't my favorite in general....but I enjoyed this. My first sip was in the middle of the South Philly Tap Room Wheat Beer Festival....when I think everyone was craving a bit o' hop. It was the best 2 ounces I had all day.
Check out Casey and his fellow fishes at Swift HALF or VaRGA Bar between 7 and 9.
AND if you go to Varga bar- you better hope they still have that crab salad on...

Happy Birthday Megan Dunn!
Today Megan Dunn is 29. i think.
She might be 28.
Meg's always quick with the wit...but not the ball.
This spring she joined an intermural team, "Balls Biv Devoe" to hone her kickball skills.
She was unsuccessful, her team number was 1/2 because she only considered herself 1/2 a player, but her presence was much appreciated by fellow teammates.
April Annie Smack Some Fanny offers, "Her name was MFD but we changed it to MVP."
Another BBD member, Steve Mashington, agrees, "Megan Dunn is unquestionably one of the most dynamic people I've met--her presence in this world is both a joy and a pleasure. Her wit and comedy are quite unparalleled. Her ability to fall down is also rather legendary."
"MFD, a whole lot of love and a whole lot of ass," says Boston buddy, Brad Johnson.
Plus she is a lady in Pursuit of Ale (and whiskey)...thus, the total package.
Feel free to email her Happy Birthday at mdunn0701@aol.com
