PORKTOBERFEST DAY 10: Cured Vittles at Fountain Porter

Fountain Porter opened the doors at 3 pm this Tuesday taking over the SE corner space at 10th and Tasker St. Evan Clancy and Scott Pawlicky who have been colleagues for quite some time at Fairmount's Kite and Key are the keyholders.

"Meats, Cheeses, Pickled" reads the center chalkboard columns. (2 meats for $8, 3 cheeses for $11) Options are nothing more and that's quite alright. This is a less-is-more kind of bar. It's understated atmosphere. Almost a wabi-sabi aesthetic. A few pictures are framed throughout the barroom, the most visible being Neil Young rocking out.

Twenty beers on tap featuring a nice range.  On my last visit, Founders Breakfast Stout, Duck Rabbit Scwarzbier, and Stillwater Berlinerweiss stood out. Locavores- fear not! Troegs, Sly Fox and Yards were also pouring.

Clancy plays his records on a turntable behind the bar. You can't see the turntable, a few 33 1/3s are about, but its not in your face. These guys have a subtle way of doing things, that hopefully should speak volumes in the neighborhood.
