PORKTOBERFEST DAY 9: Vegetables are Better with Bacon

The last few years has seen the rise of bacon barging in on bowls of brussels sprouts all over the city. An intruder has never been so welcome. Coming of age, they were on my do not/will not eat list and now it's a rather common side dish order.

The other day- I paid a first time visit to FARE in Fairmount. They were in the midst of installing an urban vertical garden in the alley.  Masons were building an outdoor fireplace. Craft beer was all over the menu, Fairmounters were walking their dogs, and everything seemed just about right minus the rude mother screaming at her son as they were waiting for the bus to come ten feet away.
The chickpeas with yogurt and cucumber were a must-try.

I ordered, crispy tuna rolls, chickpeas and cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and lobster flatbread with fennel.
FARE's concept is local, sustainable, organic. One bite of the tuna, and I could tell they were practicing preachers.

The brussels sprouts are served with a house-cured maple bacon.
